Co-organized by DePaul Art Museum, Gallery 400 at UIC and the Rebuild Foundation, Out of Easy Reach presented the work of 24 female-identity artists from the Black and Latina Diasporas, countering conventional accounts of art history that have often overlooked the artistic contributions of women of color.

We conceived and designed the catalogue for the art exhibit, a collaboration borne out of relationships between Otherwise co-founders Nancy Lerner and David Frej and the curators and artists. In a show of support for the participating artists, the artistic community and with the belief that the exhibit was something truly exceptional and important, Lerner and Frej introduced the exhibit’s catalogue as a pro-bono Otherwise project, with the studio tackling design and production.

Our studio was able to lead the project in a way that was more engaging for the curatorial team, and resulted in a design that activated image, color and typography in surprising and exciting ways.
